The Holiday Feeling

Once again, the Yangsan Gamerz group got together for a day of gaming on December 10th, 2016.  This time it was hosted by Kate, Brienne, and myself in our cozy (read small) place.  16 people were able to game together and have a good time playing at 3 tables.  There were long and short games, great food from my wife, eggnog by me, other drinks, some holiday lights and decorations, and even a little gift exchange.  All with a good holiday feeling of warmth and friendship.

Brienne was the only child among the 16 people, but she had a great time getting plenty of attention.  She liked spending time with each emo and samchon (aunt and uncle in Korean) and especially enjoyed the gift exchange.

We had a white elephant style exchange with presents running about 10,000 won each.  This was one of the best gift exchanges I have experienced personally with no bad gifts and nobody angered.  It was all laughter and good times even while some presents changed hands.  Brienne opened 1 present and stole a present including European candy from Matt. Presents included a card game, Jenga, coffee, wine, trays, candles, chocolates and candies, picture frames, smart phone gadgets, puzzles, etc.

I didn’t get any pictures of the food or drinks, but my wife outdid herself.  Everybody seemed to happily eat their fill.  The meal included ham, roasted chicken, salad, steamed broccoli, and mashed potatoes with sides of pepperjack cheese and sour cream.  There were also some cookies not made but pretty good from Emart Traders.

It was great to have such a positive event at the end of a year filled with many unpleasant world events.  Good cheer was great needed and appreciated.

See everyone again next time.

Cosmic August

Once again, our group gathered for games on August 27th, 2016.  So far, we have been able to keep the monthly momentum going.  Those gathered to play board games usually number between 12 and 18 at this point.  We had 16 players this time.

Lots of good gaming yesterday! I will record more detailed results later, but for now just the highlights. We got in some Codenames, The Grizzled, Summoner Wars, Catan: Cities and Knights, The Resistance Avalon, Ninjato, Seventh Hero, Cosmic Encounters, Bohnanza, King of Tokyo, and Red7. I don’t think I have had so much fun while not winning once. Thanks Justin Bos, Halen Bak, Aaren Tucker, Anthony Wilborn, Jeremy J. Goard, Bruce, Ginger Park, Justyna Stryjewska, Jef Fej, Sam, Ksen mm, Jenna Jordan, Daniel Cryer, and Katie Orazem for gaming with us this time.

We also enjoyed some bulgogi together at a nearby restaurant between games.

July 16th, 2016 Game Day: Miscellaneous Practice/Short/Filler Games

There were a lot of little fillers between big games with no real score to record but some challenges and fun worth mentioning for this game day.

There were some rounds of Concept with no final result starting with just Aaren, Justin, Evan, and Jeremy G then later including Daniel and Jenna to start the day of games.  Almost no success, but I think before we finished Jenna, Aaren, and Justin finally had 2 points to Daniel, Evan, and Jeremy G’s one point.  Not a full game but some challenging communication.

There were some learning games of Tichu with Katie, Justyna, Ksenia, and Ginger followed by a second learning game with for Justyna and Ksenia but paired with Halen and Justin.  There are no results to record but good games anyway.

2016-07-16 21.14.26

There was some Codenames using Dixit cards successfully for 2 rounds.  Justin gave clues with pictures and Jenna as well.  We played with no teams against the Box at that point with Evan, Jeremy G, and Daniel as well. Later they switched to words for a single round of team play Evan and Daniel versus Jenna and Jeremy G before Evan had to return to his wife and daughter.  Evan and Daniel beat Jenna and Jeremy G in that round by a narrow margin and some risky calls.

One round of Spyfall was also played in which Ronnie revealed herself as the spy before she could be caught but failed to guess the location leading to a win by Aaren, Kate, Emy, Daniel, Jeremy G, and Jenna.  However, it was a single round.

Finally, Halen, Justin, Daniel, Jenna, and Aaren played some rounds of Mafia de Cuba. An enjoyable but short game with no results to record. The last game of the night when all the other players had left.

May Games in Yangsan

May 21st, 2016 we had board games at Justin and Halen’s new place.  They have a good amount of space and lots of games on site.  11 players and lots played again. A good time was had other than the pizza.  I am already looking forward to the next one.

Dinner with Games March 12, 2016

Not a game record, but dinner is part of the experience.  Evan’s wife provides a good meal for the players who join. Also pictured, Evan’s daughter.
